Transforming A Logo Into A Modern Rustic Hair Salon Sign

A hair salon sign is essential for any hairdresser looking to make their salon stand out from the rest. Sol Collective came to Ellis Signs looking for a round wooden sign, with a chic and modern look. Keep reading to see how we carried out this brief…

DESIGN

As with the majority of our projects, we start out with a logo and work from this. Sol Collective sent us over a copy of their logo to work with, and the Ellis Signs design team came up with a couple of visuals. The very first visual included grey wood, orange LED neon and painted black letters. After a few design tweaks, we arrived at the final design which features a natural timber backing, a digitally printed gradient and warm white LED neon. The design process is extremely important as it allows to show our customers what their signage will look like once manufactured.

MANUFACTURING

This sign has a few different manufacturing elements which have helped to make it a completely unique sign. The first manufacturing step was using our CNC router to engrave the logo into the wood, as well as cutting the circular shape. After that, we used our flatbed printer to digitally print a white gradient onto the wood. Next, we went back to the CNC router to cut the letters out of black acrylic, which we then glued into place in the engraved slots. We saved the best until last- adding the LED! For this particular sign, our customer requested warm white LED. The LED neon helped to bring an already show stopping sign to life.

INSTALLATION

The Sol Collective salon is located at Tynemouth Station, so our fitting team made sure they followed all necessary health and safety procedures to be able to work here. We used brass locators to fix this sign onto the brick wall, giving the sign an effective stand-off look. The finished product looks incredible thanks to the unique design and bespoke manufacturing processes used to make this one of a kind sign.
