Design and Survey

For this project, we worked with Simon Bartlett from Bartlett ID. The caged neon sign was manufactured and installed for Olympia, a popular amusements venue located within Scarborough. Once we had a base idea of what our customer wanted, we arranged a site survey. A survey is important not only to get accurate measurements, but also because it allows us discuss more in depth about the customer’s needs. When the designs had been approved, we could begin the manufacturing process.

Manufacture and Installing A Caged Neon Sign

For this sign, a few of our departments were involved in the manufacturing process. Our CNC and laser department, metal work department and assembly department were all a part of this fun project. We began the manufacturing process by fabricating an aluminium box which would be responsible for housing the LED signage. After we’d completed the aluminium box fabrication, we cut the mesh cages to size.

The mirror gold ACM was then cut on the CNC router, as well as the acrylic for the LED neon signs. Using the CNC router allows for a precise cut on each material.

We then began the process of manufacturing the LED neon signs which involves inlaying the LED ribbon into the acrylic, and the correct colour rubber to match.

After each element was ready, the sign was all fitted together. Our highly-skilled installation team fitted the signage for the venue and our customer was thrilled with the result. The signage is contemporary and fun, perfectly matching the vibe of the venue.
